Open access for the REF

Making your research outputs REF compliant

All journal articles and conference proceedings (with an ISSN) to be submitted to the next REF must be deposited in a repository within three months of acceptance.

What you need to do

Once you receive notification from your publisher that your article has been firmly accepted:

What the Open Access team will do

Open Access staff in the Library will check all Pure records which have documents attached.  They will:

  • check the publisher copyright to ensure that public posting is permitted;
  • set an embargo period where necessary;
  • “validate” the record so it will appear on Explore Bristol Research at the appropriate time.

What about previous work?

Please upload the Author's Acceoted Manuscript for any journal articles and conference proceedings with an ISSN published since 2016. If the publication was already made Open Access at your previous institution you please add a link to the record in their repository instead.
