Student Info is a web application which gives you access to a wide range of information about you. We hold this information on our University's central student records system.
You must use the Student Info screens to check and maintain your personal details, e.g. term-time address and telephone numbers. Some screens will only be available to you at particular times of year and we will contact you when you need to use them.
When you amend information in Student Info this updates our central student records system and links to departmental databases. Our University retains a history of changes so that we can check earlier versions. All student data is collected, processed and disclosed in accordance with current UK Data Protection legislation.
You must make sure that the data shown on each screen is correct. If you have any queries or concerns, you should send an e-mail to your Faculty Office. To find your Faculty Office email address, use the ‘Schools & faculties’ link at the top of the page and select your faculty. The ‘Contacts’ page for the faculty will list the relevant contact emails.
Most of the information on this page is self-explanatory and is part of the permanent record that our University holds about you. You can update your 'Preferred Forename' (this is not used on official documentation), nationality (if blank), ethnicity and disability information. If you can't update data that is incorrect, please contact your Faculty Office.
Family Name / Surname / Forename(s) / Title / Date of Birth: Please make sure these are correct and used consistently on any applications you make. This includes to outside bodies such as the Student Loans Company. We may use this information to match records, and delays can happen when information is missing or inconsistent.
Please note: If your name contains accented characters ask your Faculty Office to enter your correct name, on your behalf. The correct spelling of your name is important because your name will be on your final degree certificate. Your certificate cannot normally be changed once your award has been made. Please make sure the forename contains your name and not just an initial.
Country of Nationality / Ethnicity: Please make sure these are completed. All UK universities are required to report these details to UK Government agencies.
Disability / Disability Allowance: If you need to amend your disability status please make sure you also contact your school/department because they may need to make specific arrangements to help you. You may also wish to contact the University's Disability Services for advice on the support available.
The drop-down list on the page enables you to select the answers ‘Yes’, ‘No’, or ‘Prefer not to say’. If you select ‘Yes’, the check boxes will become enabled and you can select any options that apply. The Disabled Students Allowance question will also be enabled.
Extra Time In Examinations: If you have been granted extra time in examinations you can view details of your entitlement.
Username: This is your UoB (University of Bristol) computing username that you use to log in to Student Info.
Student Number: This is your unique identifier. It also appears on your University student card (UCard).
Student Loans Company Student Support Number: This number enables the Student Loans Company to identify you. If you have applied for support and the field is BLANK this means we haven’t received your details from the Student Loans Company yet.
Candidate Number: This is a unique number we allocate to you for use in examinations.
University Membership / Card Expiry Date: This date is based on your expected end date, i.e. when the University expects you to complete your studies. This is the date when building access and facilities controlled by your University student expire. You can see your programme end date on the Programme Registration Details page.
Postgraduate students are allowed a further 3 - 6 month period to allow for examination and graduation. If the date is wrong or blank please contact your faculty office.
Email Address: This is the email address we allocate you by the University and cannot be changed. We will use this address to contact while you're at University. You MUST check your University email inbox regularly. Your personal e-mail address can be updated on the home address page.
This page is to confirm your emergency contact information. This screen cannot remain blank.
You can nominate anyone you choose. It does not have to be a parent or guardian but should be a responsible adult. It should be someone who you are happy for us to contact about you in an emergency.
Please note: The University can use your emergency contact in very serious situations. This is where it is in your vital interests to do so (e.g. life and death situations or similar). The University may also use your emergency contact in situations where there is significant concern about your health or safety, but your consent is required for this.
Please keep this information up to date via the Student Info application.
For further information about when we might use this information please see the Emergency Contact procedure in University Policies & Strategies.
Please make sure that this is always update with your correct home address. Your 'home' address is where you live when you are not attending the university i.e. holiday periods. Your home and term address may be the same but should never be blank. We recommend that you also record a home / personal email address. This should be an address that is independent of the University (so, please do not give an @bristol.ac.uk address). We will use this address to help you if you forget your University password.
Your 'term' address is where you are living while attending university in the current academic year. This may be the same as your home address.
Please make sure you keep your mobile number is kept up to date. When giving a UK phone number, please enter it so it can be dialled directly from the UK; e.g. 01632 960123. If you live in private rented accomodation in the Bristol City Council area, you must apply for a council tax exemption on the Bristol City Council website.
Students without a recent notification date may need to obtain a student status letter before Bristol City Council (or an other council office) will consider them for exemption.
