Our MSc degree programme provides a multiple focus for the promotion and maintenance of diet and activity related health and well being of populations.*. We have shown that a considerable demand exists for multi-skilled individuals with knowledge and understanding of research, policy and practice in both nutrition and physical activity. This MSc programme will equip you with these skills, as well as providing a unique multi-disciplinary insight into the biological, cultural, political and socioeconomic factors associated with lifestyle-related health behaviours and associated chronic diseases. The programme is specifically designed for qualified dietitians, physical activity specialists, and other health professionals such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who wish to advance themselves in the important area of nutrition- and physical activity-related public health. It is also suitable for newly qualified graduates seeking to develop a career in this area.
The programme has been compiled after discussions involving the Nutrition Society, British Nutrition Foundation, Public Health Nutritionists, the Association for the Study of Obesity, World Health Organisation and the Task Force on Obesity. There is a clear consensus that new professional and scientific needs are emerging. This programme is one of the first to recognise this need and as such will contribute substantially towards higher level qualifications in this emerging field.
*Please note this course does not cover clinical nutrition science or dietetics at the individual level. For more information on dietetics courses refer to the British Dietetic Association.
