University of Tokyo, Japan

The Faculty of Science has recently signed an MoU with the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences at the University of Tokyo, Japan. This MoU, drawn up with the assistance of the South West Regional Development Agency, sets out to promote co-operation and academic exchange between the two Faculties. In particular, the document contains a formal agreement to provide a framework for graduate students from Bristol to spend a significant fraction of their PhD (up to one year) carrying out research in Japan, and vice versa. The University of Tokyo is the most prestigious university in Asia and the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences conducts pioneering research in a wide range of scientific fields including Advanced Materials, Energy, Complexity Science and the Biosciences. The Faculty strongly welcomes this initiative, which will remain effective for an initial period of five years, and looks forward to the development of closer ties between Bristol and Tokyo in the foreseeable future. For more information about the exchange program, please contact Professor Nigel Hussey (n.e.hussey@bristol.ac.uk).
