The Centre for Deaf Studies has a long tradition of research and teaching in the field of Deaf Studies. The Centre has Deaf and hearing staff, Deaf and hearing students and a strong bilingual policy of English and BSL. The centre carries out research projects in the UK and throughout Europe and have contacts and training provision in many other countries.
The Centre for Personal & Professional Development specialise in offering and maximising opportunities for personal growth and professional development. It aims to provide students with a varied programme of studies that is flexible, collaborative and useful. It offers innovative, non-traditional and unique learning opportunities for those students wishing to increase their personal learning and for those who wish to develop professional competence through work-based learning, community engagement and continuing professional development.
The Centre is one of the UK’s leading centres in the field of audiology. We have a particular interest in people who have problems related to hearing and balance and how the impact of a hearing or balance difficulty can be managed or improved enabling someone to participate effectively in everyday life.
Teaching within the Centre is focussed on informing the professional practice of people concerned with delivering audiology services, through the pre-registration undergraduate course (BSc Audiology), the MSc in Rehabilitative Audiology, and a range of continuing professional development courses.
Research within the Centre reflects our interest in informing successful professional practice as well as understanding the needs of existing and potential patients and their families.
