ORCID Promotion Campaign

Library Research Support is launching a campaign to raise awareness of and registration rates for ORCID researcher identifiers among researchers at the University of Bristol. Attribution of research contributions is a complex task as names and affiliations are not unique, change over time, and can be expressed in different ways. ORCID provides researchers and authors with a unique, persistent identifier that can be used throughout research and publishing lifecycles to maintain a transparent and accurate record of research contributions.

The ORCID promotion campaign has two strands:

  1. An information gathering exercise to understand the distribution of current ORCID registrations across the University, analysed by researcher type and Faculty/School affiliation.  With this information, we will liaise with Faculty and School Research Directors to establish communication and education strategies for each Faculty/School to educate researchers about the benefits of ORCID registration and to encourage signup, particularly among postgraduate researchers and early career researchers.
  2. A data cleaning exercise to identify ORCID profiles for University of Bristol researchers in external systems such as ResearchFish and Scopus, and to link these with matching researcher profiles in the University research information system, Pure, if no connection exists already. Together, these two strands will improve attribution of existing research outputs and leave our researchers well-positioned to maintain an accurate record of their research contributions in the future.
