The School of Psychology and Neuroscience's mission is to deliver original, rigorous, and significant research into human cognition, brain function, emotion, behaviour and health. We foster an inter-disciplinary research culture, involving national and international collaboration with colleagues in other schools, universities, industry and healthcare.

Research themes

We have research themes to facilitate collaborations between researchers from diverse disciplines to drive innovative interdisciplinary research. By bringing people together, we maximise possibilities for generating ideas and delivering research findings that make a positive difference to people and society. 


These themes span the full arc of our work, from fundamental scientific discovery through to real-world application and impact. Crucially these umbrella themes help us build communities focused on similar outcomes but working at different levels of analysis: from cells and molecules, through circuits and systems, to populations and society.
