Nanophotonics and Nanophysics
The Nanophotonics and Nanophysics Group is internationally renowned for its strengths in scanning probe microscopy; nanophotonics; and x-ray and neutron scattering. It has state-of-the-art equipment to pursue experimental work.
We use our custom-built equipment to undertake research into:
⦁ optical forces
⦁ scanning probe microscopy
⦁ nanophotonics
⦁ singular optics.
Our unique experimental platform is based on technologies pioneered in Bristol. This puts the group in a strong position to strengthen collaborative links with Lifesciences, Biochemistry, Medical Science, Chemistry and Engineering. It also places us in a similar position with industrial partners.
The work of our researchers allows us to answer questions in areas such as healthy aging, food security and antibiotic resistance. This has led to a broad spectrum of ongoing collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. Within these studies, undergraduate projects play a key role in exploring new avenues and demonstrating proof-of-concept.
