University of Bristol Man Booker Big Read: Stephen Kelman in Conversation

This event took place on Thursday 13 November 2014

On 13 November 2014 the University of Bristol 'Man Booker Big Read' culminated in a visit by the author of Pigeon English, Stephen Kelman. Stephen read from and discussed his work and took the opportunity to answer questions.

Pigeon English is Kelman’s debut novel. It follows the life of Harrison Okupu, an eleven year old Ghanaian immigrant living on a council estate in London, as he attempts to solve the murder of a young boy on the estate. The novel was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2011.

The University of Bristol is running the Man Booker Big Read in partnership with the Booker Prize Foundation Universities Initiative, which seeks to encourage first year university students to read, engage with and appreciate the very best of contemporary fiction, thereby enabling the university community to share a common experience through the text.
