For Richard, these images depict a form of drama or entertainment rather than a sport. He took the photographs in 1994 at a contest in upstate New York. Richard's son was a wrestling fan at the time. Other references to the wrestling bout also appear in I Never Done Enough Weird Stuff. For instance, Richard mentions the wrestler 'Double Jerk' or 'Double J' and the phrase, "You're Going Down!" is from this source. The slides are drawn from an earlier work Mentations (1994) and were originally presented on two separate screens. |
