Vic Finkelstein, a leading figure in the field of Disability Studies, died on 30 November 2011. His contribution was momentous, in helping to establish the right of disabled people to found their own movement and their own model of disability.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities provided us with an opportunity to celebrate the work and the lives of people with disabilities. People with disabilities make up approximately 15 per cent of the world’s population. At Norah Fry Research Centre we are aware of the continuing contribution that disabled people make to all aspects of society, the arts, sport, politics, and the economy.
