Victoria Mason started her PhD studies in October 2010, and is carrying out research into bereavement support for adults with learning disabilities in England. She aims to explore how support workers can develop skills to support people with learning disabilities who have suffered a bereavement.
In addition to studying for her PhD Victoria supports the work of Julian Goodwin, the centre’s information officer, who produces the publication Plain Facts. Victoria also works with the Voice Group, a group of experienced researchers with learning difficulties who meet once a month to discuss issues, ideas and proposals for the centre.
Victoria has worked in the adult social care sector for the past 10 years. She has worked as a support worker within residential, day and community services for adults with learning disabilities, people with mental health conditions, older people and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Victoria has worked both here in the UK and in various parts of the USA (Seattle, New York and the Florida Keys).
