The overall winner was External Estates team, warding off stiff competition from five other teams who had each achieved the platinum award. External Estates scored a double honour by also picking up the Environmental Hero award for the innovative up-cycling work done by Andrew Ward; repurposing otherwise scrap metal, repairing tools and using redundant timber to build new structures.

Other winners included Sports, Exercise and Health for their community garden, and the Learning and Research team at Southmead who picked up two awards for Best Newcomer and Proudest Green Impact Achievement. Student Leadership went to second-year student Harry Day, who helped a number of teams deliver sustainability actions, while Student Counselling Services received an excellence award for their Positive Impact work on student mental health.

Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability, said: 'Now in its ninth year, Green Impact is still going strong. Our staff are great, constantly thinking of innovative projects, from electric vehicles to garden projects. I can't wait to see what they do next year when we celebrate ten years of the Green Impact Awards'.

150 people packed the Wills Memorial Building for the awards, which took place on Thursday 22 June,  hosted by the University of Bristol as a joint ceremony for Bristol North NHS Trust and University Hospitals Bristol.
