Professor Daniel Robert, Dr Heather Whitney, Dr Greg Sutton and Dominic Clarke were among a small number of groups selected to present their work at the festival, held as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
Their exhibit, ‘Electrostatic interactions between flowers and bees’, used interactive demonstrations and videos to show how static electricity helps bees to pollinate flowers, and how the group use laser vibrometry and other techniques to measure in detail the bee’s interaction with a flower’s electrical field.
