Dr Liz Coulthard, Consultant Senior Lecturer in Dementia Neurology at the University of Bristol, is one of five scientists who will talk at a free public event tomorrow [Thursday 5 September] about latest research and current treatments for Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

The talk, supported by Alzheimer’s Research UK and organised by scientists from the charity’s Bristol and Bath Research Network, will take place tomorrow [ Thursday 5 September] at the BAWA Health and Leisure Club in Bristol.

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity and funds more than £20 million of pioneering dementia research across the UK, including nearly a million pounds at the University of Bristol.

The event will feature short talks on a range of topics from an update on current research in Alzheimer’s disease to the latest findings for improving diagnosis. There will also be speakers talking about dementia care and a group therapy project for people newly diagnosed with the condition.

Alison Cranage of Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We would welcome anyone to come along to this free event and find out more about dementia and the research underway at the universities in the South West. There will also be an opportunity to pick up information about dementia and talk to organisations involved in support and research. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn more and to put your questions to the experts.”

The event runs from 7 to 8.30 pm at BAWA Health and Leisure Club, 589 Southmead Road, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7RG.

There is free parking and refreshments will be provided from 6.45 pm. People need to book in advance by contacting Jo McTiernan on 0117 340 2385 or email uob-aruk-event@bristol.ac.uk
