Professor Julian Hamilton Shield to feature on ITV programme about the UK's unhealthy generation

3 September 2013

Julian Hamilton Shield, Professor in Diabetes and Metabolic Endocrinology in the School of Clinical Sciences, will feature on ITV Tonight as part of a programme on childhood obesity.

An estimated one in three children in the UK are overweight or obese, which is having a serious impact on their health and life expectancy.  Poor diet and a lack of exercise means that, for the first time, children could die younger than their parents.

Julian Hamilton Shield, Professor in Diabetes and Metabolic Endocrinology in the School of Clinical Sciences will feature on ITV Tonight The Unhealthy Generation discussing with reporter, Fiona Foster, what is being done to tackle the problem.

Fiona Foster will also visit a residential weight-management camp for youngsters and meet a 16-year-old for whom the only option left is surgery to reduce her size.

The Unhealthy Generation will be broadcast on ITV on Thursday 5 September at 7,30 pm.
