Two undergraduate students at the University of Bristol have been awarded scholarships by the Boeing Company for their outstanding academic performance in the fields of Aerospace Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Cheuhui Liu and Michael Lawson, fourth year students of
Aerospace Engineering and
Electrical and Electronic Engineering respectively, were recognised for their outstanding third year academic performance and for the support they gave to other students.
The company also awarded an MSc prize to graduating student Richard Painter for the best Integrated Aerospace Systems Design (IASD) project.
Each year Boeing awards several scholarships and awards to Bristol engineering students. The investment by Boeing reflects a relationship that aims to deliver benefits across research and teaching. The scholarships and prizes are used to recognise and reward academic excellence.
Dr Mark Gilbertson, Director of Undergraduate Education for the Faculty of Engineering, said: “We are very pleased to see a major company like Boeing investing in our Electrical and Electronic and Aerospace students, and congratulate Michael, Chenhui and Richard for their outstanding performances which have led to these industrial awards.”
Shane Bennison, Engineering Director, Boeing Defence UK, added: “At Boeing, we engage with the best universities around the world in order to stay ahead of developments in research and to encourage the best students to consider Boeing for their future careers. Presenting scholarships and prizes to these outstanding students is a key part of that engagement.”
The scholarships and prize were presented last Friday [8 February] by Shane Bennison at a small ceremony and celebratory lunch with the Dean of Engineering, the Heads of Department and the Director of the IASD programme and the Director of Undergraduate Education for the Faculty.
