Ashley spent two weeks in the Utah desert as part of a simulated Mars mission, living in a Habitat Module as part of the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) - a facility dedicated to developing and testing field tactics and protocols for a human expedition to the red planet.
He was involved in a project to assess the functionality of a small, remote-controlled rover carrying a wireless video camera, which was used as a scout to explore hard-to-reach places.
Ashley's account of his 'Life on Mars' was also covered on the Science Daily and Mars Society websites and he will be appearing on BBC Two's Dara O Briain’s Science Club on Thursday, 27 November at 9pm.
