Fifty computer science students from the University of Bristol will be spending the weekend developing a smart phone App from scratch in a 28-hour marathon coding session.
The University’s Computer Science Society (CSS), in collaboration with
Mubaloo, a Bristol-based smart phone app development company, will be holding the event on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March.
In preparation for the Appathon, developers from Mubaloo have run tutorials introducing the teams to the world of App development. The seminars have covered everything from how to survive 28 hours in a team, to where to find the best Android libraries.
The aim of the Appathon is for the students to program their actual App from scratch.
Prior to the event, the teams have been able to organise their App, construct designs and plan the architecture.
Shyam Balu, from the CSS and a Computer Science and Electronics student in the Department of Computer Science, said: “We are all really looking forward to the event. The teams are assembled and the planning is done. Now all that remains is for the Apps to be coded.”
Academics from the University’s Department of Computer Science and senior member of Mubaloo will award prizes to the winning team.
