This event, held in collaboration with the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights and the African Network of National Human Rights Institutions, and funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, brings together national human rights institutions with governments and civil society organisations from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, along with regional representatives, to find practical ways of supporting national human rights institutions in challenging times.
Professor Rachel Murray, Director of the Human Rights Implementation Centre says: ‘we were prompted to hold this event as a result of the Arab Spring and the impact that this had on national human rights institutions in north Africa. Given recent events in Egypt and Cairo, our event is particularly timely and we hope it will be of practical relevance to our partners and those attending’.
