These prizes, with a value of £70,000 each, are awarded to outstanding scholars who have made a substantial and recognised contribution to their particular field of study, recognised at an international level, and where the expectation is that their greatest achievement is yet to come.

Dr Goda will use the prize money to fund two major research topics, one on infrastructure risk management subjected to multi-hazards, such as earthquakes and deterioration, and the other on seismic hazard/risk assessment of great subduction earthquakes, such as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

Through these projects, Dr Goda intends to strengthen and broaden international collaboration in the field of natural disaster and risk management with world-leading researchers in the US, Canada and Japan.
