Surrealism at The Bristol Gallery opens with a buyers’ view on Thursday 29 July 2010 from 5pm until 8pm.
The exhibition features limited edition etchings, lithographs and aquatints by Surrealists Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró, alongside contemporary paintings, prints and installations by Simon Vaughan Winter, David Lewis, Dirk Larsen and Kevin O’Keefe.
To accompany the exhibition Tricha Passes (History of Art Department, University of Bristol and Visual Cultures, UWE) will be leading a seminar examining the Surrealist circle in Paris around André Breton, considering the implications of Surrealism during the 1920s and 1930s set against the political tensions of the period.
The seminar takes place on Saturday 7 August 2010, 10am-12pm and is free and open to all.
Surrealism runs at The Bristol Gallery from 31 July to 29 August 2010.
