MAF will also discuss her history, influences, artistic heritage and working practices in conversation with Dr Rowe at a special event at the University of Bristol on Friday 15 January. The event takes place from 2pm-3pm in Lecture Theatre 1, 43 Woodland Road. Afterwards, the audience will be invited to make the short trip down Park Street to The Bristol Gallery to view a large selection of MAF’s artwork first hand. The talk is free and open to all.
Alongside MAF, Bristol University postgraduate student, Hywel Livingstone will be exhibiting a selection of his sculptural work. Hywel, who is currently working towards an MA in History of Art, utilises found objects as the inspiration and basis for his works which are then transformed into new autonomous objects with practical or symbolic function. Originating from rural Pembrokeshire, Hywel has already met with considerable success, exhibiting widely in the UK as well as being award winning recipient of a three month residency in Franconia Sculpture Park, Minnesota, in 2002.
Other artists included in the exhibition, which has been co-curated by History of Art MA student and Bristol Gallery Manager, Holly Lopez, are works by Chantal Powel, Nick Davis, Jimmy Galvin, Mark Boyce, Hywel Livingstone, Ian Campbell-Briggs, Alison Black and international artist Julien Masson.
To Be Confirmed follows the success of the New Contemporaries I and Picasso, Chagall, Matisse exhibitions at The Bristol Gallery in December 2009.
