Study of inventors wins Edelstein Prize

A book by Professor Christine MacLeod in the Department of Historical Studies has been awarded the Society for the History of Technology’s Edelstein Prize for 2008.

Heroes of Invention: Technology, Liberalism and British Identity, 1750–1914 (Cambridge University Press 2007) examines in detail the rise to heroic status of the inventor in Victorian Britain. 

The Edelstein Prize is awarded ‘to the author of an outstanding scholarly book in the history of technology published during the three previous years’.
