Organised by volunteers from the University’s Student Community Action group and staff from the Energy and Environmental Management Unit. A team of six volunteers took on the ambitious task of collecting the large amount of items that are often left behind at the end of the academic year, as students vacate their halls of residence.
The team visited, in one day, eight of the University’s halls of residence, which cater for around 2,500 students, collecting over 250 bags of items from tinned food, clothes, and cutlery to hairdryers, blankets and mini-fridges.
After spending a day sorting through the items the team were then able to donate over a ton of them to help benefit local charities.
The project took place from Monday 25 June to Wednesday 27 June 2007 and was run with the help of volunteers from Bristol University’s Student Community Action group and staff from the Energy and Environmental Management Unit.
The charities that benefited were:
Southmead Youth Centre
Novas South West
Wayahead Housing and Support for Young People
Redwood House
The CAAAD Project
Dean Crescent Hostel
St George’s House
