Opening the new centre by cutting a cake, symbolic of the Chaplaincy’s ministry of hospitality, the Vice-Chancellor spoke of the University’s support for the work of the Chaplaincy: ‘The Multifaith Chaplaincy is vital to the University both in providing support to students and for ensuring that good links are built between the University and the faith communities in the city.’
At the same event, the new Anglican chaplain, Reverend Ed Davis, and two Muslim Local Faith Contacts, Naveed Hashmi and Omar Williams, were publicly welcomed into the chaplaincy team. The chaplains and representatives of their supporting faith communities signed the Multifaith Statement to show their commitment to working together for understanding and respect.
Buddhist, Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities contributed prayers to the event and there was an opportunity for all present to affirm their commitment to the Chaplaincy’s aims.
Music was provided by Bristol University Madrigal Ensemble and refreshments by the Fair Trade Society, which runs a weekly café in the Chaplaincy centre.
The Chaplaincy team invites all members of the University, staff and students, to visit them in their new home and to use the facilities
