Bristol University serenades Babe!

Press release issued: 19 June 2006

Bristol University's Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra will be serenading ‘Babe’ in style next week as they hold a Midsummer Gala Concert at the Victoria Rooms.

Bristol University's Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir and Symphony Orchestra will be serenading ‘Babe’ in style next week as they hold a Midsummer Gala Concert at the Victoria Rooms.

‘Babe's Big Appeal’ is Children's Hospice South West's campaign to raise £15 million to build, equip and endow with initial running costs, a second children's hospice for the South West. The new hospice at Charlton Farm in Wraxall will help a further 200 very sick children and their families from across the region every year.

The concert next Wednesday (21 June) will include performances of the music of Purcell, Handel and Mozart among other classical composers, as well as the premiere of a brand new composition. Tickets cost just £6.50 (or £3.50 for concessions) and all proceeds from the concert will go towards Babe's Big Appeal.

Michael Liversidge, a senior member of Bristol University staff and a member of the Children's Hospice South West's Campaign Board, has helped to organise the concert. He said: "We're delighted to be supporting Babe's Big Appeal. The concert promises to be one of the highlights of our musical calendar here at the University and we are looking forward to seeing as many people as possible at the Victoria Rooms next week."

Tickets can be bought in advance from the University of Bristol Music Department, the Victoria Rooms, or Waterstone's University Bookshop on Tyndall Avenue. Alternatively call 0117 954 5032 or email ruth.hill@bristol.ac.uk to make a purchase by credit or debit card.
