Chrissie, a Neonatal Development Nurse Specialist in the Neonatal Unit at Southmead Hospital, was singled out from entries throughout the UK because of her long-term dedication to the neonatal profession. During her 28 year career, Chrissie has participated in University research with the Avon Premature Infant Project (1990s) and, together with Andrew Whitelaw, Professor of Neonatal Medicine, secured £500,000 funding from the Health Foundation for a three-year study (2003-2006): the Preterm Infant Parenting Study, of which she was the Clinical Trial Manager.
Presenting the award, Jan Newbold of Medela, said: "Chrissie has worked worked with premature babies for over 28 years and her career has made an incredible difference to preparing and supporting families of premature babies."
Accepting the award, Chrissie commented: "Really this award should also go to the parents and families who have helped me on the journey I have taken in neonatal care. It has been an honour to work with so many committed people."
The awards were introduced by TV's Dr Hilary Jones and at the ceremony the Minister for Care Services, Ivan Lewis MP, paid tribute to the hard work of neonatal teams across the country.
