SCI is a charity that aims to further the application of chemistry and related sciences for the public benefit. The award, made by the SCI’s Council and its international governing body, is given for ‘outstanding contribution to the science educational field so as to bring science alive and encourage young people to continue to study science’. The award will be conferred on 1 December at the Society’s awards event that is to take place at the Museum of London.

Bristol ChemLabS (Bristol Chemical Laboratory Sciences) is one of the University’s two Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). Funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the University, ChemLabS disseminates new ways of teaching and learning practical science throughout the UK. It features professional-standard laboratories and practices with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities for the e-learning of modern laboratory chemistry, hosts Fellowships for seconded schoolteachers, establishes University Teaching Fellowships and develops outreach programmes to engage pre-university students and the general public. The other CETL is the AIMS (Applied and Integrated Medical Sciences) Centre.
