Young sports enthusiasts will be at Bristol University’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health later this week [Saturday 16 April] for an American style sports tournament. 

Streetball originates from the streets of America and is an urban form of basketball played in sports centres and on playgrounds around the world.

The tournament, for 16- to 18-year-olds, will comprise three-a-side matches, with prizes for the winners on the day.  There will also be music performances by various artists, such as the Kold Hearted Krew, and a live DJ will be playing throughout the day.

Sarah Troke, Sports Development Officer at the University and one of the organisers of the event, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this unique event.  The tournament is a fun way for talented young people to develop their skills, giving them an opportunity to become involved in sport and physical activity.”

The tournament will be run by University staff and students who took part in the Community Sports Leader Award through the Centre for Sport’s community programme last year. 

The tournament is a joint collaboration between the University and VPG Entertainments with The Watershed’s Electric Pavilion Project sponsoring the event.
