Dance the night away with SCA

Press release issued: 17 February 2003

Over 100 Bristol senior citizens will be putting on their dancing shoes for Bristol University's Student Community Action (SCA) Annual Dinner Dance tomorrow [Wednesday, February 19].

Over 100 Bristol senior citizens will be putting on their dancing shoes for Bristol University's Student Community Action (SCA) Annual Dinner Dance tomorrow [Wednesday, February 19].

The evening starts at 6 pm with a sherry reception, followed by a jazz band at 6.15 pm and dinner at 6.45 pm. After dinner, guests will have the opportunity to watch the Bristol Latin American and Ballroom Dancing Society display team before taking to the floor themselves.

All the guests are from the local community - Redland, Clifton and day centres all over the city. The guests have paid £6 per ticket with SCA covering additional expenses through sponsorship from Millennium Volunteers. Students will act as door-to-door escorts, providing transport for those people who can't get to the Union themselves.

Gillian Ready, SCA Co-ordinator, said: 'The Dinner Dance is one of the most popular events in the SCA calendar. The evening is open to anyone and for many guests it's the highlight of their year.

'The Dinner Dance is a great way to expand on the work of the Day Centre which provides a chance for the elderly to meet up with students and socialise with each other every Wednesday in the Students' Union.'
