Bridging art and science

How do engineers and architects work together to make building projects happen? That is the subject of a free public lecture in Bristol by leading figures in this field.

The lecture, called 'Bridging art and science', will be given by Jim Eyre, a partner with Wilkinson Eyre Architects, and Gordon Clark, a partner with Gifford Consulting Engineers, at 6 pm on Tuesday, February 19 in the Pugsley Lecture Theatre, Queen's Building, University Walk, Bristol.

Jim Eyre and Gordon Clark were instrumental in the award-winning 'blinking eye' bridge across the Tyne at Gateshead, which opened last year. Mr Eyre will reflect on the working relationship between architects and engineers on this project and more broadly. Gordon Clark will speak, from an engineer's point of view, about the qualities required for creative collaboration.

Ian Duncan, Visiting Industrial Fellow at the University's Department of Civil Engineering, said: 'The lecture will be of interest to people of any age who care about the quality of the built environment and the creative work of engineers and architects working together.'
