MA Medieval Studies
Bristol’s interdisciplinary MA in Medieval Studies offers an innovative way of studying the vibrant culture and society of the Middle Ages. It focuses on the acquisition of practical and transferable skills for professional medievalists, including research skills, languages, manuscript study (palaeography and codicology), archival study and heritage preservation, which will equip you for further study or employment in a range of culturally oriented industries. Beyond the University, you can draw on the important archival, architectural and heritage resources of the city of Bristol and the wider south-west region. This means you have the unique opportunity to gain practical work experience with one of our partners in the cultural and heritage industries.
Other Medieval Studies-related research programmes (MPhil, PhD)
We welcome and encourage applications for postgraduate degrees by research. In addition to topics focusing on single research areas, we actively encourage interdisciplinary research that cuts across the spectrum of Medieval Studies, or other intellectual disciplines in the Faculty of Arts and beyond. Joint supervision may be provided.
Prospective applicants should consult the information on our staff research interests and contact the relevant member of staff to discuss their potential area of research.
If you would like further information on the academic content of the course, please email email@example.com.
You will also benefit from a postgraduate skills training programme, which allows you to extend your range of academic and professional skills. You may also be given the chance at an appropriate stage to teach undergraduates, and you will be offered training for this purpose, leading to formal accreditation.
We foster a vibrant postgraduate community across the Faculty of Arts, providing you with dedicated support when you need it.
Medieval Studies is among the subjects eligible for funding from the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. The Faculty of Arts also offers funding opportunities for research programmes.
