Frederick Warne was founded in 1865 by a bookseller turned publisher who gave his own name to the firm. Warne published all of Beatrix Potter's story books for children, and later the Observer Book series. In 1983, Frederick Warne was acquired by Penguin Books.
The Frederick Warne Archive contains correspondence with authors and agents, material relating to the Observer Book series and other Warne titles, press cuttings, sales figures, and illustrative material, including glass plate negatives of illustrations for The Seas.A handlist of the Frederick Warne Archive (123 Kb, doc) is available.
