This public lecture will consider the ways in which Spanish women writers marked their engagement with Spain’s sociopolitical affairs in the years between the wars. I will discuss the case of Sofía Casanova and the manner her narrative complicates our understanding of female authors’ contribution to the literary and political life in 1920s and 1930s Spain
