Register for graduation
On this page:
Students who are potentially eligible to graduate according to information on their student record are sent an invitation email to their home email address, when registration opens for their congregation. The invitation email provides access to the registration form for their ceremony.
Note that we cannot make any arrangements for your graduation ceremony before registration opens.
Invitation email - January 2025 graduation
Registration for January 2025 opens at 1 pm on Tuesday 15 October 2024 and invitations will go out over the course of the afternoon.
If you are potentially eligible to graduate in January 2025 you should receive an invitation email when registration is open. The invitation is sent to your personal (home) email address as registered at Student Info, unless we have received an updated contact email directly from you.
If you are expecting to graduate but do not receive an invitation email when registration opens, please see Registration troubleshooting for advice in the first instance. If you have any further issues contact graduation-office@bristol.ac.uk.
If you receive an invitation email but are not expecting to graduate, please contact us as soon as possible.
Register for January 2025 graduation
If you are expecting to graduate in January 2025 and receive an invitation email, you must register.
The registration deadline is 5 pm on Tuesday 29 October 2024.
You should complete the registration form via the link in your invitation email even if you:
- do not wish to attend a ceremony
- do not yet know your result
Please do not share the link in your email with others as it is specific to you. See our Registration troubleshooting advice if you have difficulties registering.
If your form is successfully submitted you will receive an email confirming your registration choices. If you do not receive this email within 24 hours, please contact graduation-office@bristol.ac.uk.
Your attendance choices will also be displayed if you log back into the form once you have registered. Changes can only be made at this stage by contacting graduation-office@bristol.ac.uk.
If the number of students who register to attend by the registration deadline exceeds the capacity for a ceremony, it may be necessary for some student cohorts to move to an alternative ceremony within the congregation. Where possible we will try to keep this on the same day as the original ceremony.
If you do not register by the deadline we are unable to guarantee you a place at graduation, or deferment to a future ceremony.
If you do not register and we do not hear from you during the registration process, you will automatically graduate in your absence and will not then be able to attend a future ceremony for the same award.
Your options
The form will ask you how you want to graduate. Find out more about your options.
Attend
You can choose to attend your graduation ceremony in this congregation. You will be guaranteed up to two guest tickets and have the opportunity to apply for up to two extra guest tickets. (Extra tickets are not guaranteed).
You will need to hire a gown and hat for your ceremony. On the day you will cross the stage to have your degree conferred, and your certificate will be presented to you at the ceremony.
Do not attend (Graduate in absentia)
You can choose not to attend a graduation ceremony.
If you choose this option you will graduate in your absence and will not get another chance to attend a future graduation ceremony for this degree.
Your certificate will be posted to your registered home address, after the ceremonies.
Defer your graduation
If you have not already deferred from a previous congregation you can choose to graduate at the next winter congregation, in February 2026.
You will need to register again when you receive your invitation for your deferred ceremony.
You will receive your certificate at the time of your deferred ceremony, according to the procedure in place for that congregation. You can request an award verification letter as evidence of your award in the meantime.
If you register to defer but have already done so before we will contact you for another option.
Our deferral policy
You can only choose to defer your graduation once.
Deferral cannot be offered after your graduation ceremony has taken place.
Deferral is not offered to summer congregations. Students who defer will be invited to register for the winter congregation following their original scheduled ceremony.
See our Certificates and transcripts page for further information about receiving your certificate, and requesting a verification of award letter if you need evidence of your award before your certificate is available.
Eligibility
Eligibility to graduate in January 2025 depends on your award being confirmed and showing in eVision by Wednesday 10 December 2024, and tuition fees being paid in full by Monday 25 November 2024. Find out more about eligibility.
Name pronunciation
You can enter a phonetic version of your name on the registration form, to assist with pronunciation when your name is announced at your ceremony. If you have not provided this information via the form you can send it to graduation-office@bristol.ac.uk.
Terms and conditions
By registering, you agree to the graduation terms and conditions.
