Ticket allocation and collection
How many tickets am I allowed?
All graduands who register to attend their graduation ceremony are guaranteed two guest tickets (as well as their own graduand ticket) for the ceremony.
There is no charge for these tickets.
Please note that there is a strict security policy of 'no admittance without a ticket' in place for the ceremony and you will need to collect your own graduand ticket even if you have no guests with you. Please also see Security at graduation for information.
How do I get my tickets?
Tickets will be available to collect from 8.00 am on the day of your ceremony from the Richmond Building, Queen's Road. You will need to bring your Student ID (or other photographic ID) with you. Guests will be welcome to wait in the café bar while graduands collect their tickets and gowns, but we ask that only graduands go to the ticket and gown areas.
The Richmond Building is approximately 15 minutes walk from the Wills Memorial Building, so please allow time to walk between venues when planning your day.
Can I request extra tickets?
Graduands can apply for one extra ticket in advance by sending an email to email@example.com. Your full name, student number and degree course must be included in the email. Your application will be entered into a random ballot, and you will be informed by email no later than 3 working days before your ceremony if your extra ticket has been allocated or not.
We regret that we cannot guarantee to inform you about extra ticket availability before this time, as we will not have the necessary information to do so until we reach a certain point in our process. Please do not contact us for information unless you have not heard from us after the deadline stated above has passed.
Graduands may apply for more than one extra ticket but only one per person will be allocated in the first instance. If there are any additional tickets after the ballot, they will be allocated to students who have requested more than one.
The deadline for extra ticket applications is 5.00 pm on Friday 25 January 2019.
There is no charge for extra tickets.
If there are any extra tickets still available after the ballots are run we will distribute them on a first come first served basis from the ticket collection point at the Richmond Building on the day of your ceremony at the following times: 8.00 am – morning ceremony; 10.30 am – afternoon ceremony; 1.30 pm – evening ceremony.
Note that the above email address is only for requesting extra tickets, and you should contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any other enquiry about the ceremonies.
Please note that there is no guarantee that any extra tickets will be available to graduands who have requested them.
If you have guests who would like to share your special day with you but who do not have tickets for admission to the Great Hall, they are welcome to watch the ceremony in the Pegg Theatre or Balloon Bar at the Richmond Building, where it will be screened live. Tickets are not required for these venues and seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
Friends and family who are not present on the day can watch a live streaming of the ceremony via the Graduation website.
Are babies and children allowed to attend the ceremonies?
This is a family occasion so children are welcome to attend, however they must be accompanied by an adult and any child aged 2 or over must be allocated a guest ticket. Ceremonies last for around 90 minutes so they may not be suitable for very young children. Out of respect for other guests we request that small children should be taken outside if they become unsettled during the ceremony so as not to disturb proceedings.
Please note that prams and pushchairs may not be brought into the Hall but can be left in the side corridors by prior arrangement.
