Wellcome Trust Fellowships
Wellcome Trust Vision
‘Good health makes life better. We want to improve health for everyone by helping great ideas to thrive.’
Fellowships Research funding
Wellcome do not place a post-PhD time limit to their schemes and do not have Early Career Routes as such. Rather, it is stated that applicants will be judged on ‘the suitability of your previous research contributions according to your career stage and experience’. However, The Wellcome Research Fellowships in Humanities and Social Science are a suitable route for less established researchers.
Wellcome Research Fellowships in Humanities and Social Science
The Wellcome Research Fellowships in Humanities and Social Science are aimed at supporting researchers in the health-related humanities who do not currently hold a permanent contract or a contract that outlasts the fellowship applied for. The call is also suitable for researchers returning to work, even if they previously held a contract.
These can last up to three years full time or longer on a part time basis. They offer costs to a maximum of around £275,000, which includes salary and research expenses.
The Sir Henry Welcome Fellowships and Sir Henry Dale Fellowships are aimed towards the sciences and as such are less suitable for Arts and Humanities Researchers.
Types of Deadlines
The Fellowship schemes run a preliminary application round twice a year, currently closing in January and in July which is followed approximately 8 weeks later by a full application deadline.
