Research

Laboraty work image Our faculty research houses internationally competitive and priority university research themes of Neuroscience, Population Heath, Health Service Research and Primary Care, Cardiovascular Science and Infection and Immunity.

The research is propagated through schools (Clinical Sciences, Social and Community Medicine and Oral and Dental Sciences) and cross faculty research themes (particularly with our sister Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences).

We work in partnership across Bristol with the vibrant and ambitious Bristol Research and Innovation Group for Health (BRIG-H). We foster excellence in people and infrastructure developing full potential of research to benefit patient health through the partnership with strong clinical specialisms that exist in both acute and community NHS trusts including cancer, children and young people, mental health and addiction and musculoskeletal disorders.

The Faculty includes MRC Centre for Causal Analyses in Translational Epidemiology (CAiTE); MRC collaboration and innovation in difficult randomised controlled trials; the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Cardiovascular diseases; the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Nutrition, Diet and Lifestyle including Obesity; Clinical Research and Imaging Centre (CRIC Bristol) and NIHR School for Primary Care Research. It is linked with the cross institutional MRC initiative the Severnside Alliance in Translational Research (SARTRE).

Together with first class infrastructure within the Henry Wellcome Laboratories of Integrative Neuroscience and Endocrinology and the School of Medical Sciences we are able to undertake fundamental research through to translational research from 'bench to bedside' to clinical trails, causal analysis, population studies and complex methodological trials.
