Social Work Bursary

These bursaries are for degree or diploma courses in social work and are supplied by the NHS Business Services Authority who administer them on behalf of the Department of Health.

Who should apply?

Applicants must be:

  • Studying an approved course.
  • Resident in England on the day the course starts.
  • Have been residing in England for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course.

What is it?

  • Eligible undergraduate students will receive a bursary of £4,862.50 to help with living costs and tuition fees from their second year of study onwards.
  • Placements Travel Allowance of £862.50 per academic year.
  • Eligible postgraduate students will receive a bursary of £3,362.50 to help with living costs and tuition fees. They may also apply for additional bursary elements.

Students from Wales

Students who are ordinarily resident in Wales but choose to study in England are not eligible for any bursary support. Students who are ordinarily resident in Wales and who choose to study in Wales can apply for bursary support via the Care Council for Wales.
