How to Apply?

  1. Apply directly for admission to the University of Bristol by 31 January 2017. Please specify that you wish to apply for the China Scholarship Council - University of Bristol Joint Scholarships Programme.
  2. Complete the short CSC - Bristol Scholarship Contact Information Form.
  3. Qualified candidates will be nominated by the University of Bristol to the CSC before March 2017. 
  4. Once you have your offer from the University of Bristol, you must apply individually to the CSC.

Eligibility & Criteria

  • Candidates must be Chinese students with a strong academic background.
  • Candidates must be citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China at the time of application; overseas Chinese students may be eligible for application subject to CSC policy at the time.
  • Candidates will be interviewed by the University of Bristol, and if successful, will be made an offer of a place on the appropriate PhD programme.
  • This offer will be unconditional if you have already completed the academic requirements of the University and the specific programme. Alternatively, it will be conditional. A conditional offer is one which requires applicants who are in the last year of their Bachelor or Master degree to successfully gain their current degree. A conditional offer would also apply where candidate would spend the first year for postgraduate courses but will progress into a PhD programme.
  • Candidates must fulfil the relevant academic entry requirements set by the University of Bristol, including a high level of English language proficiency in line with the appropriate level of English Language requirements of the University of Bristol as per the specific PhD programme.
  • Candidates will satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC.

PhD Research Areas

Candidates are able to apply to any research area offered by the University of Bristol, including Social Sciences & Law, Science, Engineering, Health and BioSciences, and Arts & Humanities.

What is the CSC - Bristol Joint Scholarships Programme?

The University of Bristol has a collaborative agreement with the China Scholarship Council to further the development of research collaborations between the UK and Chinese Universities and Research Institutions.
