Title: Development of a brief evidence-based dietary assessment tool to assess dietary intake and promote healthy dietary change for people with Type 2 diabetes

Good dietary habits underpin the management of Type 2 diabetes. Evidence exists that dietary advice, based on individual dietary assessment, improves weight, waist circumference and blood glucose control for people with Type 2 diabetes. However, most people with Type 2 diabetes receive generalized dietary advice during the course of a diabetic clinic. People with Type 2 diabetes often report that this advice is confusing and that making changes to their diet is difficult to achieve. This is further complicated because we know little about which changes to someone's diet will have the most benefit for their diabetic control. The aim of this project is to develop a brief dietary assessment tool for use during a general diabetic clinic that gives information about someone's diet and provides clear guidance on which possible dietary changes will have the most benefit.
