Design and methods
Design
- Longitudinal study from last year of primary to first year of secondary school.
- Objective measures of how active children are in relation to where they go.
- Physical and social environmental determinants of physical activity.
- Examine physical activity and other lifestyle behaviours in relation to obesity and pubertal status.
- Examine eating behaviours and snacking outside of the home (year 7).
Methods
Children
- Computerised questionnaire including items on physical activity; attitudes to physical activity; local area, personal growth and development, health behaviours.
- Height, weight and waist circumference.
- 1 week accelerometer.
- 3-day activity diary.
- 4-day GPS.
- 3 day food diary (year 7).
Parents
- Questionnaire including items on household; local area; physical activity; income and education levels.
