Who they are

some of our participants Our 240 participants were recruited through 12 NHS Bristol GP surgeries.  They are 125 gentlemen and 115 women aged 70 and above.

Over 50 of these participants also took part in our interview sub-study.  And over 20 took part in our ‘GPS’ (Global Positioning Sensing) one.

We were interested in meeting all sorts of people aged 70 and above, no matter where they lived or the type of lifestyle they led.  It did not matter at all how active or inactive our volunteers thought they were!  During the study, we encouraged all our participants to go about their routines as normal, and to avoid changing any part of their lifestyles.
