Simon Guilfoyle, Police Inspector and Systems Thinker examines what happens when the wrong measures and dysfunctional performance management practices drive organisational activity.
Using examples from the policing environment, he will demonstrate how a systems approach can counteract the adverse effects of conventional performance management and lead to reduced cost and improved service delivery. Simon will contend that all numerical performance targets are arbitrary and prone to driving dysfunctional behaviour, and propose that the key to effective police performance management lies in applying the principle of Right Measures; Measured Right.
