The Inside Track Lecture on Industrial Research

13 February 2014, 1.00 PM - 13 February 2014, 1.00 PM

Post-graduate and post-doctoral research is often seen as solely the province of universities and government agencies, but there is a strong and vibrant commercial research industry too.
This presentation will give an overview of post-graduate / post-doctoral research in general, highlight some of the differences between academic and industrial research, and give some insight into what the work actually involves (taking wireless telecoms research as a case study). Some ideas, advice and tips on paths to get to this career will also be given.

Whether you are an undergraduate interested in research, or a postgraduate looking for ideas about future career plans, this should be a fascinating lecture.

Date: Thursday 13th February 2014

Venue: Room 1.15 (Queen's Building)

Time: 1-2pm

The Inside Track Lecture is an industry lecture series aimed primarily at students. Speakers from a range of industries will share their inside knowledge; they are typically University of Bristol graduates from the Faculty, and are asked to give the 'inside track' on what it is like to work in a particular industry or field. Talks will be of interest to students across the Faculty, and will all be followed by a Q&A session, the chance to meet the speaker over refreshments in the Pugsley Lecture Theatre Foyer and a related LinkedIn discussion.

For more information please contact: The Industrial Liaison Office on engf-ilo@bristol.ac.uk or 0117 95 45483.

*The Inside Track lectures are open to all University of Bristol students and staff, but if you are from outside the University and would like to attend, please email engf-ilo@bristol.ac.uk
