ACCIS seminar series: Sustainable composites
The presentation provides an overview of recent activities carried out at The Federal University of São João del Rei (Brazil) about sustainable composites based on recycling of mineral and industrial wastes and the use of natural fibres. Examples considered in this presentation will be polymeric and cementitious composites for mechanical and civil engineering applications. Another set of recycled-based materials are auxetic structures made from rubber wastes and natural fibres. Hybrid composites reinforced with silica micro-nanoparticles and carbon nano tubes have been also investigated for possible applications like ceramic pads for aerostatic porous bearings. The analysis carried on the different recycled/naturally reinforced and nanocomposite-based materials is based on using rigorous statistical methodologies, in particular Design of Experiment (DoE)
This seminar is open for all to attend and will be held on Monday 2 December 2013 at 11am in ACCIS meeting room 2 (Queen's Building). The seminar will be chaired by Professor Fabrizio Scarpa.
