University of Bristol Engineering ranked 6th in Times Higher Education analysis of the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, with 98% of our research being recognised as world-leading or internationally excellent. The department's research covers the full range of mechanical engineering topics, for example, advanced materials for aero-engines, adaptive control systems theory and energy studies in power stations.
Academic and industrial collaboration within the department includes but is not limited to the Bristol Robotics Laboratory in partnership with the University of the West of England (UWE), the UK Research Centre in NDE (RCNDE) of which Bristol is the founding academic member and South West Nuclear Hub - a joint venture with the University of Oxford.
