Each year from February to mid-March, the Department provides a sequence of 8 or 9 visit days in which students who have been made an offer by us are invited to visit the Department for a day. Visit days generally take place every Wednesday afternoon during this period and applicants are invited to meet both staff and current students on the course, as well as to have a look round the department. Parents are welcome to attend. A typical programme for the day is available to download (PDF, 69kB).
We understand that overseas students may not be able to visit Bristol before deciding whether to accept their offer of a place. However, if you are likely to come to the UK and would like to visit the University, then please let us know which dates are suitable for you and we will do our best to arrange a department tour.
The University provides a number of open days for prospective students wishing to visit. You will get the chance to meet academic staff, tour the facilities and the University as a whole, and see a range of presentations and exhibitions of what we do. Should you be unable to attend one of the University open days, tours for prospective students are also offered during the summer vacation, which are led by current students and organised centrally. Alternatively, you may wish to contact Emma Wood to arrange a tour of the Faculty of Engineering. We regret we cannot accommodate visitors directly to our Department without prior appointments, and since all our academic staff are also active researchers, we cannot guarantee a chance to meet a staff member outside scheduled hours.
The procedure for visiting residences is that anyone wanting to view must contact the residence in advance to arrange an appointment. The Accommodation Office provide contact information for the main Halls of Residence. Residences will not be able to show people around unless they have made a prior appointment.
