We spoke to our Civil Engineering alumni about their current roles and what advice they have for future students.

Since leaving Bristol...

I'm employed as a graduate structural engineer at BDP and have been working alongside architects and M&E engineers on multiple projects, such as hospital extensions and a HQ for a world-famous company. I've also stayed in contact with the University as part of the network and am involved with varies activities.

In my current job...

I provide clients with the most suitable solutions using engineering judgement, which requires me to do research in various regulations, design guidance and academic research papers. The fourth year design project at the University of Bristol is really similar to what I have been doing in industry.

Having a UoB Civil Engineering degree...

I would say 4 years of study in Civil Engineering has provided me a great insight of the industry, and this degree has enabled me to be well-prepared to work as an engineer after graduation.

The course has given me essential learning skills to work as an engineer, such as critical and creative thinking.

Top tips for future students...

All lecturers have great experience in solving real-life problems, and they are very keen on helping you with the projects as long as you ask.
